I did NOT bleach my hair and mermaid, an electric turquoise aqua color, came out a dark forest green. I had medium brown hair. I only dyed the tips, then about half my hair, and I still have roughly 1/4 of a jar left. It had faded to a seaweed green color, but I haven't touched it up in three weeks and I use warm water in the shower and the color is doing pretty well still.
